From 26th February to 28th i had the pleasure of attending a water resourrce mapping workshop organized by Unicef Somalia in Nairobi. The aim of the workshop was to bring together the relevant stakeholders to share experiences and challenges, innovations and reforms, highlight and identify best practices and develop a roadmap for water resource mapping in Somalia. Some of the outcomes of the workshop were: To share information on current water resource mapping, share lessons learnt from latest droughts, exchange best practices and solutions for securing fresh water, identify strategic location in need of access to fresh water both for humanitarian and development reasons and strengthening donor consesus regarding the urgent need to secure public access to fresh water. The workshop was very informative,we had the opportunity to contribute towards sharing data and our experiences in the field.Overall i learnt alot about undergroud water resource mapping and its importance in making lifesaving decisions required in emergency drought response which is critical in a water stressed country such as Somalia.
