We are now at the start of our second year in business and at this moment we are working on teamwork and impact.
Teamwork Holland GreenTech as a company is growing and we opened office start of this year in Nairobi and Lusaka as well. We are investing because we are making real business by supplying farmers with quality inputs from Holland. For the Uganda branch we are now a team of 8, and now we are getting more than a nice start-up. We need to start professionalizing; Set-up efficient workflows, divide responsibilities, think about our client base and be very aware of our margins ánd, most important, keep and grow a nice team of professionals.
Working on these strategic levels, but still visit and advice our clients on the ground gives a nice combination to stay close to reality, or ‘met je poten in klei’. It is nice to see our clients are increasing their yields with big steps and lowering their cost and environmental impact by using our inputs and advice. Using technology to offer quality inputs is really making a difference.
Impact But are we making a difference and changing the game of Aid & Trade? If you ask me, or any of my colleagues, we know we do. But the overall effectivity of PPP or private sector contributions to food security goals is not yet confirmed by data, as Minister Kaag stated in her letter to the House of Representatives of 26th of April ‘Beleidsdoorlichting Buitenlandse handel en Ontwikkelingssamenwerking’. file:///C:/Users/Pieter%20van%20Schaik/Downloads/kamerbrief-over-iob-beleidsdoorlichting-nederlandse-inzet-op-voedselzekerheid-2012-2016%20(1).pdf . Let’s work on this!
Therefore, since last week we have 2 teams of 3 students from Utrecht University in Uganda and Rwanda to set-up and start an impact assessment of our company. How many farmers do we train? How much is the yield and income from our farmers increased? And how is the return on investment of public funding we receive ór projects we contribute to? Very difficult, very interesting and very important, as we private sector need to communicate our impact. To show how the Aid & Trade agenda can boost development compared to previous discourse in Dutch Development policy. Ánd to talk before others start to talk for us…
In the meantime, we are growing and having fun with the team you see in the picture! Follow us on Facebook: Holland GreenTech Uganda or Twitter: MaartenHermus to stay updated!
